Knight Fork on f7 (Fried Liver Trap)
A recurring pattern: an undefended f7/f2 square plus a knight and bishop aimed at it lets White sacrifice a knight to expose the king.
Key ideas
• f7 (or f2 for Black) is only defended by the king in the opening — a classic weakness.
• Watch for a bishop on c4/c5 and a knight that can hop to g5/g4 then f7/f2.
• If you fall into this as Black, Kxf7 is forced but the king becomes very exposed.
What to play next
Kxf7
Forced recapture; White follows with Qf3+ and Nc3, keeping strong attacking chances.
